Seattle proudly serves eight major cruise lines offering multiple premier ships for your Alaska adventure. You can read our complete guide to using public transportation to the Seattle cruise terminal here. In a tech-hub like Seattle, it’s only right that the best way to get to the cruise port is using a rideshare service like Uber or Lyft. It’s what we’ve used personally, however, in recent years the price has risen dramatically. When comparing Seattle Alaska cruises to ones from Vancouver, Seattle departures tend to have shorter port times. Most itineraries arrive in Juneau in the afternoon due to the longer travel time.

Smith Cove Cruise Terminal is close to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (~20-25 min drive) and to downtown (~10 min drive). The terminal is located on Pier #90 and Pier #91, at approx 2 mi (3 km)  from downtown in northwestern direction. This port used to serve as an industrial port and a resupply base and still looks a kind of industrial.

There is a Sky Bridge directly connecting the garage with the cruise terminal making it easy to reach your cruise on foot or by wheelchair. There are 25 handicap parking spaces available at the Bell Street Pier garage. These need to be prebooked if you are leaving your car there for the duration of the cruise. Whether you have a few hours or a few days to explore, Seattle is packed with exciting experiences and attractions. If you are disembarking in Seattle and have a later flight, you can benefit from the Port Valet. A complimentary service, the Port Valet will collect your luggage from the cruise ship and deliver it to the airport. You’ll be able to track your luggage online for peace of mind. Cruise passengers arriving in Seattle for the day need a shuttle to reach downtown. Major cruise lines provide one, usually at USD 20 roundtrip. The buses usually drop guests at The State Hotel at 2nd Avenue and Pike Street.

In addition, since this is a private ride, you can ask your driver to make stops on the way if you forgot anything or want to pick up some snacks before the cruise. As well, if coming from somewhere other than the airport, then it’s no problem to catch a ride no matter where you are. Seven major cruise lines currently operate weekly service out of Seattle on eleven premier vessels.

On arrival, cruise passengers may be offered soft drinks while waiting to board but there are no cafes actually at the cruise terminal. However, there is plenty of seating with a great waterfront view and restrooms are available. Although Seattle cruise port is not as busy as the main cruise ports in the USA, such as Miami and Port Everglades, it handles over one million cruise passengers. An extra day or two allows the opportunity to thoroughly explore Seattle or venture just outside of the city. Or take a ferry ride from downtown to a nearby island, tour the Boeing airplane factory or drive 30 minutes to the 268' Snoqualmie Falls. A few shuttle services have popped up in recent years to help you get from the airport to the cruise port.

That’s because it’s served by a much greater number of cruise lines, including Carnival, Celebrity, Holland America, Royal Caribbean, and Princess. The location is north of downtown, but a short distance away. There is also parking right nearby if you are driving in for a cruise.

From downtown Seattle, walk or utilize taxi or rideshare services to reach the Bell Street Cruise Terminal. Luggage storage location is in the Crew Center at the north of the Ground Transportation Center. With this option you can have your stay and transportation taken care of in one transaction. In general, expect to pay $40-55 each way to get to the port for two adults. More than two adults will see a small additional charge, but minors don’t count (perfect for a family heading on a cruise). An alternative to Seattle’s Great Wheel, the Space Needle provides aerial views of Seattle Center.

Statistical data shows that an average turnaround cruise tourist spends USD 1547 in the city (on hotels/lodging, dining/drinking, transportation, shopping). The city is also a great place to spend an extra day or two to explore what it truly offers. Each offers natural beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities. During our stay, we chose the Grand Hyatt Seattle, conveniently located within walking distance of key attractions.
